Wine Tasting in Padova!

How is everyone today? 

As promised, here is another blog post. This one is a post about the vineyard we went to last weekend while on our trip to Venice, Verona and Padova. The wine tasting was such an interesting experience! The vineyard was absolutely beautiful, but then, what ISN'T beautiful in Italy? Honestly..... 

Anyway, while we were doing the wine testing, I had you, (all of my loving, faithful blog followers) in my mind and I thought "oooh, I should take some great notes on this to share with my AMAZING followers!" So, here are the notes that I took!

We got to try three different types of wine...all red! And all with either a cheese or a biscuit to accompany the tasting. Although I don't drink wine (just can't acquire a taste for it! ... oh well!), I knew I couldn't miss out on this opportunity to at least and experience it!

The first wine:  MY FAVORITE!
1st red wine - 
Year: 2009 
13% alcohol
Family: red : small red fruit...sensation of cherry in its scent
Paired with cheese with a little bit of cherry jam

The Second Wine
2nd red wine
Year: 2007
15% alcohol
Piece of cheese to accompany (24 months of aging)
Much sharper cheese paired with this wine than the first one
The taste of the red wine was much sharper as well....very tart/sharp
Darker coloring of wine as well 
Scent of cooked cherry like a plum
18 euro

The Third Wine
3rd wine: sweet wine
Matched with biscuit or other sweet things
Short fermentation ... Some sugar remains in wine... Sugar of fruit
Deep color... Intense 
Scent of wine... Like a jam or marmalade of cherry 
14 euro

Tasting Tips!!
 --Always taste twice!!

 --Swirl the wine in glass

 --Always hold stem....if you hold the bottom you will warm the wine (yuckieee!!) 

 --Use all senses when tasting wine 
     --Even your ears!!!

A little information on the family vineyard:
-- They pick only the best grapes and store them for about five months from September to February and the best way to store then is in wooden crates because they absorb water and humidity
-- The grapes will be very dry by February

-- The family's brand has been on the market for fifteen years
--They only export to India, Canada, Germany, France, Denmark
--They produce about 60,000 bottles of wine a year.... They prefer quality over quantity

--It takes about 30 years for cedar to be good enough to be made into a cork

So there you have it! A quick 101 on wine tasting! For anyone planning to come to Italy, definitely take an afternoon to go to a local vineyard and experience the technique of wine tasting for yourself!!!
